Human Trafficking
In this course a gain insightful knowledge about the issues of human trafficking. It is an increasing problem worldwide. Many people believe that uneducated, immigrants, and females are the group that is targeted for trafficking, but this is not true. Any one can become a victim of human trafficking. Individuals can be recruited into trafficking through kidnaping, false promise of job or education, false advertising for job education, love, romance, and marriage. Human trafficking involves exploitation of human beings for sex, labor, drug trafficking, domestic work, organs, and carrying babies. The United States should spend more money on decreasing and eliminating the human trafficking problem that is happening right here in our own neighborhoods. Through the surveying of law enforcement individuals, it was shown that there have been more than 100 cases of prostitution-related offenses that have been reported within their jurisdiction. The first step to getting others involved is through education and trainings.

Psychology of Health & Illness
This class helped me gain more insight into health psychology using the biomedical and biopsychosocial models. The biomedical model focuses more on the illness where providers did things by the book and would use cellular pathology to find a diagnosis whereas the biopsychosocial model had the idea that the mind and body together determine health and illness. I learned about how stress and health-related symptoms can take a toll on our overall health. I did a PowerPoint presentation about body image which discussed different types of eating disorders and obesity. I learned that body image is the subjective mental image of one’s own body that can be affected by family, friends, society, and the media. I also learned that we should love the body that we are in and must practice self-care techniques that are great for our overall health.

Myth, Rituals, Mysticism
It is important for us to learn about the different worldviews and understanding their cultures. Myths create networks of meaning that affect the lives of people in that culture far beyond the domain of religion. Symbols can stand for emotional and complex things that exist in our minds. Moreover, we learned about rituals that are being performed in different cultures and how they believe it is normal within their traditions. These rituals activities are a symbolization of the beliefs and values of a community. We also learned about Gods and spirits where spirits are associated with souls and ghosts and are less powerful than gods. Spirits do not interact with humans whereas Gods do interact with humans. Lastly, we learned about witchcraft and sorcery with the different variations in witchcraft beliefs. All of these topics were informative in learning about these different topics and learning about how they are done differently depending on cultures and religions.
